Looking back to where Izzy Roberts Orr began her university career, it's hard to believe she has had so much success. Currently, Izzy is the Artistic Director of the Emerging Writers Festival, but has had a busy career leading to this point. Izzy entered university life as an arts/law student. When she realised this was not the life for her, Izzy came to RMIT where she completed her Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication). Due to this transfer, Izzy began this course older than her peers and in order to compensate, she completed a number of different internships and work experience to gain as much exposure as possible. While these internships did not all lead to long standing careers, this experience allowed her to gain connections and vital skills that have lead her to where she is today.
Izzy Roberts-Orr completed an internship with the Emerging Writers Festival, and now, many years later, finds herself in one of the three positions at the festival.
"There is more than one way to measure the success of an internship. Whether that be that you learn something, that you get another opportunity, or that you carry that connection around with you for years to come."
Besides her work with the EMF, Izzy has worked on a wide spread of projects with different organisations throughout the course of her career, and is now writing and creating podcasts around her other responsibilities.
She cannot recommend completing internships any more highly.
