TEAM CHARTER

Team members:
Olivia Patterson, Jessica Else, Grace Marks, Tien Nguyen Thuy & Natalie Pitcher

Purpose of our charter:

●  Identify the values of the team

As a team we believe in honesty and everyone feeling comfortable enough to not only voice their ideas, but to also ask for a helping hand. As students we value understanding that each person has their own personal lives and we all need to be empathetic to the other commitments that we each may have outside of our studies.

  • Provide clarity of expectations

Our expectations of each other and of the group as a whole are as follows: the workload will be distributed evenly across the group, we will have realistic expectations of what we can achieve as a group, we endeavour to be as reliable as possible, we must communicate with each other and voice if we are having difficulties. We expect that each person supports one another, not only taking on what is solely appointed to you but having an awareness of each other’s tasks as well.

●  Set standards of behavior

We have all agreed to complete our work to a high standard and help each other when we believe that standard can be raised. As we all have different skills, it is important that we all complete work to the best of our ability so that all areas of the project are strong. We have all agreed to make sure we are constantly looking at the project as a whole, not simply through the lens of our own set tasks.

Communication:

  • We have chosen to collate our research in a Google Drive folder, which means we each have access to all documents, that our work is collaborative, and we can see the work that each member has contributed.

  • We have also facilitated a group chat on Facebook to voice our queries, concerns and advice, in a way that is instantaneous.

  • We have additionally decided to meet in person each week to ensure we are all on the same page, with the conduct of group meetings following the agenda outlined below.

Team roles:

  • Specific roles and responsibilities will be established once we have determined the nature and number of tasks in our project plan.

  • Care will be taken to ensure that allocation of roles is fair and equal, and that each member is comfortable with their designated responsibility.

Meeting requirements and time management:

  • Meetings will be set at times when all members are available to attend, or are able to still contribute remotely via online channels.

  • Meeting conduct:

    • We will begin by reviewing the tasks that had been set for the week, with each member reporting on their progress.

    • We will exchange comments on each other’s work and collaborate to combine these findings.

    • We will conduct assessments of how we are performing as a group and whether we are on track for a timely submission.

    • We will review the overall project, and allocate tasks to be completed by the following meeting at the close of each meeting.

    • At least 40 minutes will be allocated for each meeting to ensure everything is discussed

  • Each person should try to be involved with meetings. Information about our own tasks should be communicated, and each member should contribute to coming up with ideas and future plans.

  • Clear goals and deadlines will be set at the end of each meeting to ensure each member knows where the group is headed.

Handling conflict:

  • When a conflict arises, the key aim is to ensure that conflicting parties feel heard and that their complaints are addressed.

  • All parties must endeavour to resolve the situation quickly, with as little impact to the project progression as possible.

  • Calm and respectful behavior towards all members must be maintained at all times.

  • Members who are not directly involved in the conflict must help to mediate the situation.

  • Each member’s point of view must be heard and taken into consideration.

  • We all agree to compromise so that we can reach a resolution that satisfies all members.
